My pal Chris Duggan, whose cartoons have graced The Times, The Financial Times, The Independent, The Daily Telegraph, Vogue and Punch, (to name only a few) created the cover design for ‘Barefoot’ which I loved from the moment I saw the first rough. This groovy seventies take on Botticelli’s original Birth of Venus (which you can see any time in the Uffizi if you don’t mind a crowd), completely captures the spirit of the book in a striking visual metaphor.
Chris is a big fan of Shakespeare and he has never missed (literally) a production at Shakespeare’s Globe Theatre in London. He recently held an exhibition at the theatre of pictures of Shakespeare characters from Globe Productions, and has published a book with nearly 200 illustrations called Drawn To the Globe (Ancon Hill £7.99). Be sure to look out for it!
